About IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association)

The IEA was established in Spring 2002 for student equestrians in grades 6-12. Beginning with 200 participants, the IEA now has more than 11,000 members in 42 states.

The mission of the IEA is to introduce students in private and public middle and secondary schools to equestrian sports and to promote and improve the quality of equestrian competition and instruction.

At IEA competitions, riders do not supply horses or tack. Instead, the host team arranges for horses and equipment. Since the horse is new to the rider, scores are based upon horsemanship and equitation.

Childress Rodgers Stables Equestrian Team (CRSET) "Chile Peppers"

CRSET “Chile Peppers” is a combined Middle School & Upper School IEA team. Middle and upper school riders practice, compete & play together—attending the same practices, shows and team outings. The Chile Peppers season runs through the school year (September - May). CRSET is registered with the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) in Zone 5, Region 2.

Practices

Chile Peppers practice at Childress Rodgers Stables approximately 6-7 times each semester. Practices are scheduled on Friday afternoons/evenings and on weekend days. Times are set in advance and riders may choose their practice days and times via Sign Up Genius. Note: Per IEA rules, riders also must be lessoning regularly at their home barns.

Shows

The team travels to shows in Zone 5, primarily in Ohio. Riders are permitted to attend no more than five shows during the season (IEA rules). If a show occurs over a weekend, it counts as two shows. (Riders may attend one or both show days.)

Host Show

Each established IEA team is required to host at least one show per year. Team participation (riders, parents, families) is vital. This is the very crux of IEA—the opportunity to compete without horse ownership! (And without traditional show costs, such as trailering horses, stalls, shavings, etc.) Host teams provide horses, tack and support (workers/volunteers). There are a variety of volunteer opportunities involved in show prep and on show days. Riders may compete in their own team-hosted shows, but also are expected to work the shows.

For Fun

Chile Peppers riders plan team get-togethers throughout the year, such as cookouts, participation in charity runs, holiday parties and more. Rider volunteers generate ideas for events and handle coordination. Chile Peppers is a “rider driven” organization that offers riders opportunities for leadership and teamwork.

Community Service: Camp Elmo

Each summer, the team hosts a 2-day morning camp for siblings of cancer patients. Riders plan and run camp activities, including games, crafts, snacks, etc. This camp serves as the team’s community service component, and participation by all team riders is expected.

Childress "Chile" Rodgers
In Loving Memory

The Childress Rodgers Stables Equestrian Team rides in honor of of our beloved Chile. The team's biggest fan, Chile supported each of us ... touching our lives forever. Chile left this world on May 20, 2016 after a lifetime of instilling in riders a love for our sport. We are grateful for the time we had with her. She is greatly missed.
